The Ministry of Defense has reportedly informed Mayor of Zushi city Ryuichi Hirai today that the Ministry of Defense will begin on August 6 a project of constructing a school to accommodate schooling needs for 800 American kids within Ikego U.S. forces personnel housing district in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
According to the Ministry, the project is to construct a three storey high school building whose floor space is 9,600 square meters to accommodate 800 kids in 40 classes. It costs Japan USD 45 million and will be completed by March, 2014.
A total area of Ikego U.S. forces housing district and U.S. Navy facilities is 2.88 square kilometers, 87.3% of which is in Zushi city, occupying 14.5% of the total area of the city. In the district, there are tennis courts, a baseball stadium, an athletics stadium, shops, restaurants, etc. all paid and built by the Government of Japan. The area has been occupied by U.S. forces since September 1, 1945.
In this project, we should appreciate it that the Ministry of Defense will suspend the project from February to July during which Goshawks feared extinct in Japan return to their nesting territories and begin laying eggs.
