昭和二年三月二十四日国民軍南京ニ攻入リタル際不秩序ナル国民軍兵士及無頓ノ徒ハ在留日本人ノ家宅店舗ヲ襲撃シテ掠奪ヲ恣ニシ旦多数ノ居留民(婦女子ヲ含ム)ニ暴行障害ヲ加ヘタリ。特に注目スヘキハ日本領事ニ暴行ヲ加ヘ又領事館ヲ掠奪シタルコトニシテ領事館ノ物品ハ一物モナクナリ盗出セリ。又適々救護ノ為赴キタル帝国海軍ノ軍人一名ハ流弾に当リ死亡セリ。右事件ニ依ル日本人ノ被害者ハ五十一戸、死者一名財産上ノ損害見積リ二百三十一万ニ上レリ。

When the National Revolutionary Army (NRA) attacked Nanking on March 24, 1927, the Chinese soldiers disobedient to the army regulations and Chinese civilians totally indifferent to the laws and orders relentlessly attacked and indulged in looting the Japanese residences and shops. They furthermore inflicted violent acts and injuries on the Japanese residents (including children and women). A particular attention must be paid to the fact that they even attacked a consul at Consulate of Japan in Nanking and plundered every item.
One soldier of our Imperial Japanese Navy who came to rescue them was killed by a stray bullet. In the incident, Japanese citizens of 51 households suffered damages and one soldier was killed. Total damages were estimated to be more than 2.31 million Yen. -from a report made by Mr. Mamoru Shigemitsu, Minister of Consulate-General of Japan in China.
