Questionable Relations between “Citizens Party” and a building related to The General Association of North Korean Citizens in Japan
Prime Minister Kan and his party members (parliamentarians and councilors of local governments) are being accused of political donations of USD 2,562,000 (calculated at the rate of JPY 80 against USD) to “Citizens Party” whose one of the members is the first son born between late Mr. Takamaro Tamiya (died at the age of 52 on November 30, 1995), a leader of the group who hijacked Japan Airlines Flight 351 on March 31, 1970 while flying from Tokyo to Fukuoka and his wife Ms. Junko Mori who abducted Japanese nationals and took them to North Korea.
According to a news report, relations between “Citizens Party” and a 9 story office building (situated near Japan’s national Diet) related to The General Association of North Korean Citizens in Japan remains questionable. It is the building once owned by a North Korean businessman and sold to the third party at public auction but still occupied by three firms owned by his relatives. An ex-owner of the building was once known for his involvement in transferring huge money to North Korea. In 1982, he sent congratulatory money of 100 million Yen to Kim IL sung on his birthday. And, he got involved in a financing trouble of a few hundred billion Yen with female president of the company to deal with gifts. He was confined and later found gunned down on a street in Shinjuku, Tokyo a month after a predecessor organization of “Citizens Party” moved in his building.
In relation to the fact that the party has its office in the building very closely related to “The General Association of North Korean Citizens in Japan”, a representative of “Citizens Party” denied any relations with the association by insisting that it is only coincidental and that we have no contact with those working in the same building.
However, one working in the building and related to the association admitted that they purchased 300,000 Yen worth party tickets sold by the Democratic Party of Japan when he was a representative of Central Executive Committee, North Korean Chamber of Commerce.
The Liberal Democratic Party has just organized a project team to carry out a thorough investigation into the alleged political donations made to the abduction-related political party by Prime Minister Kan.
A close relationship between Prime Minister Kan and “Citizens Party” has been evidenced at least in the past two elections; the one was an election of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly on June, 2005 and the other a by-election of the lower house of Japan’s national Diet on October, 2006. On both occasions they held the press conference and shook hand with each other.
