At the plenary session of the Upper House of Japan's National Diet, Prime Minister Kan stated in reply to a question raised by Mr.Yoshifumi Matsumura (a member of the Liberal Democratic Party) over acceptance of political donations from a foreigner by his political fund management organization "Generally speaking, whether I should resign over the issue depends upon whether I am guilty of any crime." PM Kan obliquely denied his resignation over the issue. Japan's political fund control law prohibits politicians from receiving political funds from foreigners. If intentionally violated, a maximum sentence is either imprisonment not exceeding three years or a fine not exceeding JPY 500,000. Prime Minister Kan has repeatedly denied that he had knowledge of what a donor was. http://bit.ly/nfFiBE
