As I briefly discussed on denuclearization issue of North Korea or the Korean peninsula yesterday, Reuters reported today that Senator John McCain, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee questioned General Walter Sharp, the current commander of United Nations Command in South Korea at a US Senate hearing whether there was any scenario under which Kim would give up his nuclear weapons capability and received an answer "To answer your question directly: No, I do not see that he will give up his nuclear capability." from Sharp.
This answer strongly suggests that US has not only so far lived up to its policy of denuclearizing North Korea but also has accepted a chance of North Korea giving up its nukes as being dim, thereby destablizing security and jeopadizing the power balance in the Far East.
Coupled with a nuclear crisis at Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, the Korean peninsula has given her a real threat since their nuke warheads are reportedly targeted at Japan and her people.
It is expected that Mrs. Clinton will come up with a much stronger message than just having repeatedly emphaszing resumption of six-party talks considered as a fly to catch North Korea and having often praised Japan as a cornerstone of U.S. Asia policy, essential to maintaining peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region when she visits Seoul this weekend.
