An old Japanese man told me "Those subscribing to The Asahi Shinbun are just wasting their money because The Asahi Shinbun is lower in its quality of being anti-Japan. They should choose The Japan Communist Party journal instead because it gives them much more pleasure of defaming Japan and her people.
The Asahi Shinbun is a major newspaper in Japan, threatened by US forces not to write anything against US and anything good about Japan during occupation.
