Soon after the death of Kim Jong-il was internationally known, the Chinese government reportedly stressed to Japan, U.S., Russia, and south korea, members of six party talks that stability on the Korean peninsula and its surrounding area would help satisfy its strategic interests, seeking cooperation not to overreact to the death of late dictator, say sources related to six party talks in Beijing on December 24.
By mentioning the strategic interests of China with a emphasis on "its surrounding area", China seems to be concerned about the expected influx of North Korean refugees into the northeaster area of China, bordering with North Korea. In other words, China has determined to extend full support to the peaceful transfer of power to Kim Jong-un, thereby stabilizing the area where many ethnic Koreans live in.
