The Kyushu Office for Fisheries Coordination, Fisheries Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries reports on August 26 that a Korean long-liner (29 tons, 9 crews) has been captured for the charge of violating Fishing Rights (Sovereignty) and a Korean captain Mr. Lin Hyung-taik (52) 林亨沢 숲시 사 has been arrested for the same charge.
The Korean suspect produced a falsified report on his fishing operation as saying that his vessel had caught about 500 tons of ribbonfish outside Japan's EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone). He actually caught them 170 kilometers southwest of Mejima lighthouse, Goto city, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.
The office has so far captured four foreign fishing vessels in the area this year.
